For independent used-car dealers

Know which auction cars to pass on before you bid.

Paste your run list. Every car gets its model-year reliability grade and a check on whether its mileage sits right where owners report that model's big failures.

Check any car. No account needed.

Pick a car and its miles to see exactly what your run list shows for it.

What you get

Everything you need on auction day.

Built for the five minutes you have between lots, on your phone or at your desk.

Bid, Caution or Pass

Every car gets a clear call from its grade and its mileage, so you can scan a 40-car list in a minute.

The failure window

See where owners report each problem, like head gaskets at 76–120k, and where this car's miles fall in it.

Engine and transmission

Graded separately, because a car with a great engine and a bad transmission is a different buy.

Scan or paste VINs

Scan the VIN barcode with your phone, or paste a whole run list with miles and lot numbers at once.

Recalls flagged

Problems with a recall issued are marked, so you know which repairs a dealer does for free.

Export and lot sheets

Sort and export your list to a spreadsheet. On Pro, print an independent reliability sheet for the cars you sell.

How it works

From run list to bid list in three steps.

  1. 1

    Add your run list

Scan VINs, paste them with miles, or pick the year, make and model. VINs are decoded with NHTSA's own decoder.

  2. 2

See the grade and the risk

Each car shows its model year's grade, its most-reported problems, and where its mileage sits in each failure window.

  3. 3

    Bid on the right cars

Sort by Pass first, check the condition report on the Cautions, and spend your money on the cars least likely to come back.

Works with what you use

History tells you the past. This tells you what's next.

Keep pulling history reports. GradeMyCar answers the question they can't.

What this model tends to do next

  • Reliability grade for the exact model year
  • The problems owners report most
  • The mileage those problems usually show up at
  • Whether this car's miles are in that range
Questions

Good questions before you sign up.

Where do the grades come from?

From the complaints owners file with NHTSA, the federal agency that tracks vehicle defects and runs recalls. We've sorted more than 800,000 of them by problem and compared each model year with other cars from the same year, adjusted for how many were sold.

Does it tell me if this specific car will break?

No. Grades describe the model year, not one car's condition. They tell you what to look for and how much risk you're taking on, so you know which condition reports and inspections matter most.

Which cars are covered?

121 popular models from 2000 to 2024, including the trucks, SUVs and sedans that make up most auction lanes. Brand-new model years show up once there's enough owner data to grade them fairly.

Does it work at the auction?

Yes. It runs in your phone's browser. Scan the VIN barcode on the car or the auction label, add the miles, and the car is graded in seconds.

How does the free trial work?

You get 14 days free. You add a card at sign-up and aren't charged until the trial ends. Cancel anytime from Plan & billing, and you won't be charged.
